Softball Recap: Boardman Picks Up Seventh Consecutive Victory

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Boardman ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Champion Golden Flashes 2-1. The victory was nothing new for the Spartans as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Tori Strines spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up eight Ks.

At the plate, Boardman saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Freeborough, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Addie Rudge was another, going 1-for-4 with one home run.

Boardman pushed their record up to 13-2 with the win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Champion, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 9-1.

Boardman and Champion should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings. The Spartans (ranked 12th) will meet Mineral Ridge (ranked 206th) at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Boardman 2.3, the Rams 3) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Champion will square off against Crestview at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (21 vs. 208).
