Basketball Game Preview: St. Mary's Ryken Knights vs. St. John's Cadets

St. Mary's Ryken hasn't had much luck against St. John recently, but that could start to change on Monday. Having just played yesterday, the St. Mary's Ryken Knights will get right back to it and host the St. John's Cadets at 2:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

St. Mary's Ryken is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Maryland's top teams: Bishop McNamara, who was ranked first at the time (St. Mary's Ryken was ranked 17th). St. Mary's Ryken was beaten by Bishop McNamara 73-24 on Sunday. The Knights just can't catch a break and have now endured four defeats in a row.

Meanwhile, St. John's came up short against Bishop McNamara on Friday and fell 44-35. The game marked the Cadets' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

St. Mary's Ryken's loss dropped their record down to 16-11. As for St. John's, their defeat ended a 12-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 23-3.

St. Mary's Ryken was taken down by St. John's 84-45 when the teams last played back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of St. John's Morgan Stewart, who went 13-for-16 on her way to 34 points in addition to six assists and six boards.
