Basketball Recap: Magnolia Heights Chiefs vs. Starkville Academy Volunteers
After soaring to 63 points the game before, Magnolia Heights was a bit more limited in their contest on Monday. They fell 36-24 to the Starkville Academy Volunteers. The Chiefs have struggled against the Volunteers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Starkville Academy found their leader in sophomore Kate Couvillion, who went 10 of 14 en route to 23 points along with six rebounds and six steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Couvillion has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Calliope Koiva, who posted two points in addition to five boards, four blocks, and three steals.
Magnolia Heights' loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Starkville Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-4.
Magnolia Heights will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Lewisburg at 1:30 p.m. on December 20th. As for Starkville Academy, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 55-35 win against Marshall Academy on the 10th.
