Providence Catholic and Brother Rice are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Celtics will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Crusaders at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Wednesday, Providence Catholic needed a bit of extra time to put away Chicago Mt. Carmel. They had just enough and edged out the Caravan 7-6. The Celtics haven't had any issues with the Caravan recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Meanwhile, Brother Rice came tearing into Tuesday's contest with 22 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Ramblers get on the board and left with a 10-0 win. Considering the Crusaders have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
The result came thanks to Danny Sheehan's shutout, as he gave up just five hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jackson Natanek was incredible, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Nolan Ramoley was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Brother Rice pushed their record up to 24-1 with the victory, which was their 15th straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.5 runs on average over those games. As for Providence Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 17-9.
Providence Catholic came out on top in a nail-biter against Brother Rice in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, sneaking past 7-6. Will the Celtics repeat their success, or do the Crusaders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
