Three national records were broken last week during meets at the New Balance Track & Field Center in New York City.
Strymar Livingston of
Columbus (Bronx, N.Y.) set a national record by winning the 600-meter run in 1 minute, 17.64 seconds. The previous record was 1:17.9.
Zavon Watkins of
Liverpool (N.Y.) established a national junior-class record when he won the 1,000 in 2:26.13.The previous record was 2:26.44. Watkins also holds the national sophomore-class record.
Mary Cain of
Bronxville (N.Y.) set a national freshman-class record by placing second in the girls 1,000 with a clocking of 2:50.84. The 7-year-old record was 2:52.84.

Detroit Country Day (Beverly Hills, Mich.) senior Dartis Willis cleared 7 feet, 2 ¼ inches to win the high jump during the Michigan Indoor State meet in Ypsilanti, Mich., and take the national lead. He was named the Outstanding Male Field Event Performer.
Penn State University recruit Dynasty McGee of
Ypsilanti (Mich.) was named Outstanding Female Running Events Performer after setting meet records in the 400 (55.25) and the triple jump (37-1/4) and anchoring the victorious 4x200 relay (1:41.61).
OSHIER, GEDYON RUN GREAT MILESIt took a career-best performance for Jantzen Oshier of
Trabuco Hills (Mission Viejo, Calif.) to win the mile during the Brooks Invitational in Seattle. The standout senior was timed in 4:07.52, barely holding off Elias Gedyon of
Loyola (Los Angeles), who was clocked in 4:07.58.
Bradley Tech (Milwaukee) senior Deserea Bryant ran the 60 for the second time ever and won in 7.26 – which is No. 5 all-time.
Ammar Moussa of
Arcadia (Calif.) romped to a two-mile victory in an outstanding time of 9:00.62.
VENA SETS ANOTHER RECORDDespite nursing a sore neck and back,
Morristown (N.J.) senior Nick Vena added to his long list of accomplishments by winning the shot put with a throw of 67-2 ½ during the New Jersey Meet of Champions. The University of Virginia recruit is the first boy – indoor or outdoor – to win four M of C titles in the same event.
ENDRESS HAS SUPERB DOUBLEAltoona (Pa.) senior Wade Endress turned in an outstanding double victory during the Pennsylvania State Indoor Championships in State College, Pa. He won the 800 in a superb 1:51.73 and the mile in 4:13.34.
SIMMONS SETS VIRGINIA RECORDUniversity of Miami recruit Isaiah Simmons of
Woodbridge (Va.) won the shot put with a state-record throw of 68 feet during the Virginia Class AAA indoor championships in Hampton, Va. The previous record – the oldest on the books - of 65-5 ½ had stood since 1978.
