Preview: Midland vs. Quitman
On Friday Quitman take on Midland at Varsity at 7:00 PM. Quitman is expected to win -- but not by much -- so they will need to come into the contest prepared for a fight.
Quitman had to kick off their season on the road last week, but they showed no ill effects. They took the game and then some with a 51-6 win. They was expected to win, but the margin was definitely larger than the state rankings had forecast.
Meanwhile, Midland couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They found themselves the reluctant recipients of an unpleasant 14-40 punch to the gut against Melbourne. Midland were in a tough position by the half, with the score sitting at 0-40.
Quitman's victory lifted them to 1-0 while Midland's loss dropped them down to 0-1. In their victory, Quitman relied heavily on senior Levi Balentine, who rushed for 103 yards and 2 touchdowns; a key strategy for Midland will lie in finding a way to minimize his impact.
