Adena and Westfall are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Warriors will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.
While Adena's win against Southeastern wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-4 victory over the Panthers on Wednesday. The Warriors haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Braelyn Ratzlaff was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Marly Halcomb was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Westfall had just enough and edged out Zane Trace 7-6 on Friday.
Adrina Hicks was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Westfall let Kaylynn Arthurs and Aubrey Caudy run wild. Arthurs went 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run, while Caudy went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one double. Those three RBI gave Caudy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jill Butcher, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Westfall kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 3-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Adena's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Westfall, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
Westfall's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Adena has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.5 hits per game. It's a different story for Westfall, though, as they've been averaging 9.4 hits. Given Adena's sizable advantage in that area, the Mustangs will need to find a way to close that gap.
Adena beat Westfall 13-9 in their previous matchup on April 2nd. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Mustangs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
