Football Recap: Liberty Piles Up the Points Against Independence

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Liberty). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 63-35 win over the Independence Knights. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 36-14.

Liberty found their leader in sophomore Brody Schramek, who rushed for 291 yards on only seven carries, and also picked up 34 receiving yards. Schramek really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run. Ian Williams did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 134 receiving yards.

Liberty was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 358 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Independence's loss came despite strong showings from Jeremy Thompson and Jack O'Connor. Thompson gained 198 total yards and a touchdown, while O'Connor threw for 220 yards and one TD.

Liberty's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Independence, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Liberty has already played their next game, a 28-7 loss against Emerson on the 3rd. As for Independence, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 63-7 defeat against Anna on the 2nd.
