Baseball Game Preview: Riverdale Cowboys vs. Chowchilla Tribe

The Riverdale Cowboys are taking a road trip to face off against the Chowchilla Tribe at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. Riverdale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

While Riverdale's win against Caruthers wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Cowboys had just enough and edged out the Blue Raiders 6-5 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cowboys have posted since April 12th.

Riverdale let Xaidyn Camacho and EMMANUEL BOJORQUEZ run wild. Camacho went 3-for-4 with one run and one RBI, while BOJORQUEZ went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That's the most hits Camacho has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Catarino Garcia, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Chowchilla came out on top against Yosemite on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run third inning. The Tribe's pitcher stepped up to hand the Badgers a 10-0 shutout. The Tribe might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 11 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Dillon Watkins was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out ten over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Davian Stephenson was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Chowchilla's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 4-1 (and 9-12 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Zayden Kobzeff, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one RBI.

Chowchilla is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-13 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Riverdale, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-15.

Riverdale suffered a grim 23-2 defeat to Chowchilla in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Cowboys avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
