Basketball Recap: Lilliana Welstad Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mountain View

Liberty won the last time they faced Mountain View and things went their way on Thursday too. The Liberty Lions enjoyed a cozy 47-32 victory over the Mountain View Toros. Given the Lions' advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 41st, while the Toros are ranked 133rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Liberty's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Lilliana Welstad led the charge by putting up 12 points. That's the most points Welstad has posted since back in January. Kallee Hilt was another key player, posting ten points.

When it comes to explaining why Mountain View lost, don't look at Emma Fischbeck. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Christensen, who posted seven points and seven rebounds.

Liberty's record is now 9-4. As for Mountain View, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 3-5.

Liberty will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Liberty is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.1 points per game this season. As for Mountain View, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, an 85-33 win against Santa Fe Christian on the 20th.
