Softball Recap: Combs Find Success

While Combs's win against Dysart wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Combs came out on top in a nail-biter against Dysart on Monday, sneaking past 18-16. The Coyotes haven't had any issues with the Demons recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive victory against them.

Nikey Stewart made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (four). She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-6 with three RBI and two doubles.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Melissa Gonzalez, who got on base in four of her six plate appearances with four runs, five RBI, and one stolen base. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Emery Huffaker was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.

Combs' win bumped their record up to 5-9. As for Dysart, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Combs will host Poston Butte at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Poston Butte's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Combs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Dysart, they will be playing at home against Tempe at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. This will be Dysart's first chance to prove their worth in the conference.
