The West Vigo Vikings will head out on the road to square off against the Edgewood Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
West Vigo had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Shakamak on Thursday. The Vikings blew past the Lakers 13-7. The Vikings haven't had any issues with the Lakers recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Jaycee Elkins was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2025. Lily Krause was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
West Vigo hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least three batters in 11 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Edgewood never let their opponents score on Saturday. They put the hurt on Beech Grove with a sharp 10-0 win.
ALLY BLAND made a splash no matter where she played. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
In other batting news, ELLA SPROUL was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was ADDISON YEARBY, who went 2-for-4 with three runs and one RBI.
West Vigo's record is now 8-4. As for Edgewood, their record now sits at 12-2.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. West Vigo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .415. However, it's not like Edgewood struggles in that department as they've averaged .336. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
West Vigo couldn't quite get it done against Edgewood in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 as they fell 5-2. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
