Basketball Recap: Leonard Lancers vs. Wellington Wolverines
The Leonard Lancers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight defeat. They were outmatched by Wellington on the road and fell 53-19. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Leonard in their matchups with the Wolverines: they've now lost four in a row.
Leonard's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Witney Naurelus, who scored seven points along with two steals, and Euterria Davis who scored seven points. It was the first time this season that Naurelus grabbed two or more steals.
Leading Wellington to victory were Alana Russotti and Madison Smith. Russotti scored 17 points along with five rebounds and two steals, while Smith dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds. Smith is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Xiao Sheinkin was another key contributor, scoring four points along with two steals.
Leonard has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season. As for Wellington, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leonard will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against the Trojans at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th. As for Wellington, they will take on the Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Royal Palm Beach is coming into the match on a four-game losing streak.
