Softball Recap: Temecula Valley Golden Bears vs. Chaparral Pumas

Temecula Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 12-11 heartbreaker at the hands of the Chaparral Pumas. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Pumas this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-5 last Friday.

Kay Peterson was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

In other batting news, Jaycee Branson was cooking despite her team's loss, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and three runs. Samantha Light was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Temecula Valley's record is now 6-11. As for Chaparral, their win ended a six-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-13.

While Temecula Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
