Baseball Recap: Bertie Takes a Loss

Bertie was the 6-3 winner over Gates County when they last played one another on Wednesday, but their luck changed this time around. The Falcons fell just short of the Red Barons by a score of 3-2 on Thursday.

Messiah White was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over six innings pitched. That's the fewest hits he has allowed since back in February. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

White wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Tayvien Ward, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Bertie has also been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-13 record this season. As for Gates County, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-9 record this season.

Bertie wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 15-5 win against North East Carolina Prep on the 15th. As for Gates County, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 12-6 defeat against Perquimans on the 15th.
