Basketball Recap: Brandon Romero's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hoopa Valley over Modoc

Hoopa Valley was the 47-42 winner over Modoc when they last played one another back in December of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Hoopa Valley Warriors received a blow on Monday as they fell 60-43 to the Modoc Braves.

Hoopa Valley's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brandon Romero, who went 5 of 11 on his way to 11 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Lyle Mckinnon, who posted ten points and six rebounds.

Chris Guasp was his usual excellent self, going 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points and six rebounds for Modoc. The matchup was Guasp's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Adin Benson, who put up six points in addition to 15 rebounds and three blocks.

Hoopa Valley's defeat was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-5. As for Modoc, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 10-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hoopa Valley will take on Ferndale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Modoc, they won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Fall River at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Modoc is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.2 points per game this season.
