Basketball Recap: Summit Academy Comes Up Short

After flying high against Providence Hall last Wednesday, Summit Academy came back down to earth. The Summit Academy Bears took a blow against the Judge Memorial Catholic Bulldogs on Friday, falling 88-38. The Bears haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Despite the loss, Summit Academy still got an impressive performance from Nixon Savage, who went 5 for 12 en route to 19 points and seven boards. Dominik Ruiz also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

JJ Apathjang continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Judge Memorial Catholic, dropping a double-double on 39 points and 11 rebounds. Apathjang has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more points the last 13 times he's played. Another player making a difference was Majak Deng, who went 7 of 10 on his way to 14 points in addition to six boards and four steals.

Summit Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Judge Memorial Catholic, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season.

When Summit Academy and Judge Memorial Catholic next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. Summit Academy will take on American Heritage and their four-game winning streak at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Judge Memorial Catholic will try to stop Wasatch Academy's six-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
