Basketball Recap: Northwestern Starts Season with Win Against Maconaquah

Northwestern took care of business in their home opener on Friday. They took down the Maconaquah Braves 71-56. This was payback for the Tigers, who suffered a 74-49 loss the last time these two teams met.

Northwestern was led to victory by Bradyn Wilson and Colin Cook. Wilson shot 53% from the field on his way to 23 points and five boards, while Cook dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Player #24, who posted eight points and five boards.

Northwestern was working as a unit and finished the game with 17 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Maconaquah saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jack Gochenour went 10-for-22 en route to 32 points and three steals. Tristyn Herschberger was another key player, putting up six points and six rebounds.

Maconaquah's loss dropped their record down to 0-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Northwestern will square off against Taylor at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Maconaquah, they will take on Wabash at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
