Concord is 8-2 against Springport since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Tuesday. The Concord Yellowjackets will be playing at home against the Springport Spartans at 7:00 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Last Saturday, Concord opened the new year with a less-than-successful 54-48 loss to they. It was the first time this season that they let down their fans at home.
Concord's defeat came about despite a quality game from Mekhi Wingfield, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 12 rebounds. That was a full 50% of Concord's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Medellin, who scored ten points.
Meanwhile, Springport unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell 63-56 to Bronson. Springport has not had much luck with Bronson recently, as the team's come up short the last six times they've met.
Despite their loss, Springport saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Tucker Wiginton, who scored 18 points, was perhaps the best of all. Wiginton is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Braydon Hawes, who scored ten points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Concord's loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-4. As for Springport, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Concord have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 27.9 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Springport, though, as they've been averaging only 33.5 rebounds per game. Given Concord's sizeable advantage in that area, Springport will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything came up roses for Concord against Springport when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 71-37 win. Does Concord have another victory up their sleeve, or will Springport turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
