Softball Recap: Miller Grove Wolverines vs. Lovejoy Wildcats
Miller Grove had to kick off their season on the road on Thursday, but they showed no ill effects. Everything went their way against the Lovejoy Wildcats as the Miller Grove Wolverines made off with a 17-2 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Wolverines as it put an end to their three-game losing streak dating back to last season.
Amiyah Morrison was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 14 over 4.2 innings pitched. Morrison was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while going 4-for-4.
In other batting news, Armonie Morrison was incredible, scoring four runs and stealing three bases while going 4-for-4. Mariah Presley was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Miller Grove always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lovejoy only posted an OBP of .118.
Lovejoy's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 1-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Miller Grove will square off against Druid Hills at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Lovejoy, they will take on Langston Hughes at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
