Football Recap: Monte Vista Sets Scoring Season-High Against College Park

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Monte Vista). They put the hurt on the College Park Falcons with a sharp 59-36 win on Friday. Given the Mustangs' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 142nd, while the Falcons are ranked 491st) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Henry Lasker had an outrageously good game as he rushed for 210 yards and three TDs while picking up 9.1 yards per carry. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Ian Ondricek, who threw for 230 yards and four touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Monte Vista was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 265 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as College Park only rushed for 107.

College Park's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Havens, who threw for 257 yards and four TDs. Ethan Pidkova was another key player, picking up 97 receiving yards and one score.

The victory was the third in a row for Monte Vista, bringing their record up to 4-1. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 49.7 points over those games. As for College Park, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Monte Vista will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Campolindo at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Cougars' defense has only allowed 11 points per game this season, so the Mustangs' offense will have their work cut out for them. As for College Park, they wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 38-14 defeat against Miramonte on the 3rd.
