Recap: Tennyson Lancers vs. Mt. Diablo Red Devils
The Tennyson Lancers put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They pulled ahead with a 53-52 photo finish over Mt. Diablo. Given Tennyson's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 322nd, while Mt. Diablo is ranked 1115th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Matthew Lorje continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 18 points along with 6 steals. He hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Another player making a difference was Mauricio Frech, who scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds.
Mt. Diablo's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Willy Jones, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jones is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as he's now blocked two or more in the last three games he's played. Eric Warrick was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 5 rebounds.
Tennyson's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-0. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.5 points per game. As for Mt. Diablo, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tennyson has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Oakland Military Institute at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th. Mt. Diablo will take on Ygnacio Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
