Baseball Recap: Chugiak Snags Third Victory in Last Four Games

Chugiak had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the nine-run drubbing they dealt Bartlett on Wednesday. The Mustangs never let the Golden Bears get on the board and left with a 9-0 win. Considering the Mustangs have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

The result came thanks to Jonah Shearer's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Chugiak let Owen Dockstader and Blake Yawit run wild. Dockstader went 3-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base, while Yawit went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two doubles gave Dockstader a new career-high. Tyler Cage also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Chugiak was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. They are 4-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Chugiak has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.5 runs over those games. As for Bartlett, they are on a 15-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Coincidentally, Chugiak and Bartlett will both be playing Bettye Davis East Anchorage the next time they take the field. The Mustangs will head out to face the Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Golden Bears will host them at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
