Softball Game Preview: South Lyon Lions vs. Franklin Patriots

The South Lyon Lions will challenge the Franklin Patriots at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. South Lyon's pitching crew has only allowed 4.1 runs per game this season, so Franklin's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

South Lyon barely beat Walled Lake Western the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Lions blew past the Warriors 16-1 on Wednesday. The win was nothing new for the Lions as they're now sitting on three straight.

Canton hit Franklin with a four-run sixth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Patriots wound up with the same score they had in their last game (8-6), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. They haven't had much luck with the Cobras recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Makenna Goldman was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Savana Mullen, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

South Lyon's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-5. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Franklin, their loss dropped their record down to 5-11.

South Lyon took their victory against Franklin in their previous matchup back in May of 2015 by a conclusive 6-0 score. Do the Lions have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
