Basketball Recap: Kyrice Bowman's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Hilton Head Island over Brunswick

Hilton Head Island was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 71-66 heartbreaker at the hands of the Brunswick Pirates. While losing is never fun, the Seahawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 125th in South Carolina, while the Pirates are ranked 30th in Georgia).

Several Seahawks players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kyrice Bowman, who went 8 for 15 on his way to 18 points and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Tajae Wright, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 15 points and five boards.

Heze Kent continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Brunswick, dropping a double-double on 20 points and 19 boards. Kent's evening made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Joshua Daniel was another key player, going 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points.

Hilton Head Island's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Brunswick, their win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0.

Hilton Head Island wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 65-46 defeat against Benedictine on the 14th. As for Brunswick, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-68 victory against McIntosh County Academy on the 14th.
