Softball Recap: Fairfield Triumphs

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Fairfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-10 win over the Blanchester Wildcats. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Lions.

Rilee Quickle was a major factor no matter where she played. She struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Quickle was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of her six plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Fairfield kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.

Fairfield's record is now 18-8. As for Blanchester, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-10.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Fairfield will challenge Peebles at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Indians' pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so the Lions' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Blanchester, they will venture away from home to challenge Madison Plains at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.
