Recap: Athens Bulldogs vs. Lancaster Golden Gales
The Athens Bulldogs entered their tilt with the Lancaster Golden Gales with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Athens enjoyed a cozy 57-43 win over Lancaster on Saturday. Given Athens' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 65th, while Lancaster is ranked 208th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Asa Holcombe was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of Athens' points. Brystol Stump was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with six rebounds.
Athens is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Lancaster, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 7-5.
Athens' homestand continues as they prepare to take on Wellston at 7:30 p.m. on January 11th. Wellston is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. As for Lancaster, they will head out on the road to face off against Pickerington Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Pickerington Central has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
