Basketball Recap: Nelson County Takes a Loss

Nelson County had lost three straight at home, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 7-12 to make it four. They came up short against the Breckinridge County Fighting Tigers, falling 64-41. While losing is never fun, the Cardinals can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kentucky basketball rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Fighting Tigers are ranked 32nd).

As for Breckinridge County, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. They have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 21 points or more this season.

Josie Mitcham was her usual excellent self, going 8-for-9 to rack up 22 points and five boards. Those 22 points gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Grimes, who shot 45% from the field on her way to 13 points and seven assists.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Nelson County won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Thomas Nelson at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Breckinridge County, they will also get right back to it: they'll face off against Taylor County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
