Baseball Game Preview: Conwell-Egan Catholic Eagles vs. Roman Catholic Cahillite

Conwell-Egan Catholic hasn't had much luck against Roman Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Eagles will head out to face off against the Cahillite at 4:00 p.m. Neither Conwell-Egan Catholic nor Roman Catholic posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Things were looking good for Conwell-Egan Catholic after they put the first runs on the board on Thursday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of St. Joseph's Prep by a score of 3-1. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Eagles have suffered against the Hawks since April 10, 2018.

Chase Forester was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out seven over 5.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Conwell-Egan Catholic is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 2-3 otherwise.

At the plate, Conwell-Egan Catholic saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Ortiz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Ortiz hit this season. Another was Brady Guzzie, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Roman Catholic was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 8-2 to Archbishop Ryan.
