Softball Game Preview: Ridgefield Tigers vs. New Canaan Rams

Ridgefield has gone 9-1 against New Canaan recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Rams at 4:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Ridgefield 4.1, New Canaan 2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Ridgefield fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Darien on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Wave by a score of 3-1. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Caitlin McGratty spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 13 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jada Metzger was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, New Canaan faced St. Joseph in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Saturday. The Rams fell just short of the Cadets by a score of 2-1. It was the first time this season that the Rams let down their fans at home.

Ridgefield's defeat dropped their record down to 9-8. As for New Canaan, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 7-1 and their overall record down to 10-2.

Ridgefield was able to grind out a solid win over New Canaan when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 5-2. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
