Softball Game Preview: Airport Jets vs. Monroe Trojans

The Airport Jets will head out to take on the Monroe Trojans at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Airport's pitching crew has only allowed 3.1 runs per game this season, so Monroe's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Saturday, Airport was able to grind out a solid win over Linden, taking the game 9-4.

Brooklyn Martin and Alayna McDaniel were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Martin didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, McDaniel tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. Martin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. At bat, Martin went 1-for-4 with three RBI and one double, while McDaniel went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI McDaniel has posted over her last nine games.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brenna Baker, who went 3-for-4 with three runs and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted over her last nine matchups. Another player making a difference was Emma Wehrs, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Meanwhile, Monroe made easy work of Huron on Monday and carried off a 15-1 victory. The win continues a trend for the Trojans in their matchups with the River Rats: they've now won six in a row.

Airport's record now sits at 21-7. As for Monroe, their record is now 10-7.

Airport was able to grind out a solid victory over Monroe in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 3-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jets since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
