Volleyball Recap: West Jessamine Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Preston Patterson and Cohen Freese

West Jessamine lost against Paul Laurence Dunbar back in April of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. West Jessamine fell just short of Paul Laurence Dunbar by a score of 3-2. The Colts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

West Jessamine came incredibly close to winning: the sets they lost were decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-27, 25-23, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13.

West Jessamine's loss came despite strong showings from Cohen Freese and Preston Patterson. Freese had 14 digs and one assist, while Patterson had 16 kills, 16 digs, and six aces. That's the most aces Patterson has posted since back in May of 2024.

They weren't the only good server: West Jessamine was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 12 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in three consecutive matchups.

Paul Laurence Dunbar found their leader in sophomore Oscar Diaz, who had ten digs.

West Jessamine's defeat dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Paul Laurence Dunbar, their win bumped their record up to 2-3.

Looking ahead, it'll be an old-fashioned rodeo when West Jessamine Colts take on Frederick Douglass Broncos at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Paul Laurence Dunbar, they will challenge Tates Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
