Basketball Recap: Sparta Comes Up Short

Sparta was the 45-35 winner over Chester when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Sparta Bulldogs took a 49-43 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Chester Yellowjackets.

Despite the loss, Sparta saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Dariontez Monroe went 6-for-11 on his way to 19 points. Monroe's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was DJ Hayes, who posted seven points and six assists.

Sparta has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 17-11 record this season. As for Chester, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-14.

Looking ahead, Sparta will head out to take on Red Bud at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Sparta is facing Red Bud at the right time seeing as Red Bud is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Chester, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Wesclin at 7:00 p.m.
