Recap: McComb Tigers vs. Lawrence County Cougars
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the McComb Tigers can now relate to. They fell just short of Lawrence County by a score of 28-25. McComb's defeat signaled the end of their 11-game winning streak.
Several Tigers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jamarcus Pittman, who threw for 266 yards and two touchdowns on only 19 passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Another player making a difference was Sammy Badon, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries.
Ahmad Hardy was his usual excellent self, rushing for 281 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 11.7 yards per carry. Hardy is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last seven games he's played. Kannon Cato was another key contributor, rushing for 107 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
McComb's loss dropped their record down to 11-1. As for Lawrence County, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season.
McComb does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Lawrence County will square off against Poplarville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Mississippi (Poplarville is ranked 47th, while Lawrence County is ranked 60th).
