Basketball Recap: Lakewood Comes Up Short

Lakewood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were dealt a 74-40 defeat at the hands of the Gibbs Gladiators. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 76-49 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Gibbs' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Oneal Delancy, who went 5 for 9 on his way to 16 points and six steals. Those six steals gave Delancy a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Daniels, who went 7 of 17 en route to 16 points in addition to six boards and five steals.

Lakewood's defeat dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Gibbs, their win was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 18-4.

Lakewood will head out on the road to challenge IMG Academy White at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Gibbs, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 60-56 victory against Academy of Central Florida National on the 25th.
