Basketball Recap: Damen Hazelwood's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Surry Central over South Iredell + How To Watch

The Surry Central Golden Eagles ended up a good deal behind the South Iredell Vikings on Friday and lost 68-51. While the Golden Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Vikings 14-9 in the first quarter.

Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Damen Hazelwood, who shot 50% from the field on his way to 21 points and eight rebounds. Hazelwood is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as he's posted one of at least 50% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Jax Whitaker was another key player, putting up 13 points.

Surry Central's defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for South Iredell, they have started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Surry Central will head out to challenge Elkin at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for South Iredell, they are packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will face off against Porter Ridge at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
