The Lake Country Lutheran Lightning will challenge the Brookfield Academy Blue Knights at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Lake Country Lutheran is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.7 runs per game this season.
Lake Country Lutheran's usually-dominant pitching crew will be looking to make up for Monday's struggle, when St. Thomas More hitters got past them. The Lightning lost 11-3 to the Cavaliers on Monday. The Lightning have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Grant Manthei was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. That triple was his first of the season. Preston Manthei was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Brookfield Academy, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against St. Francis on Thursday, sneaking past 5-4. While the Blue Knights didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-13), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Patrick Mahoney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Connor Tracy was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
Brookfield Academy pushed their record up to 6-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lake Country Lutheran, their loss dropped their record down to 7-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lake Country Lutheran has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Brookfield Academy struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lake Country Lutheran took their win against Brookfield Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Do the Lightning have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Blue Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
