The Lamesa Tornadoes will venture away from home to take on the Roosevelt Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Lamesa is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Tulia: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Tornadoes blew the Hornets out of the water with a 42-7 final score. The matchup was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Tornadoes had established a 21-point advantage.
Deev Lugo had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 202 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries. His longest rush was for an impressive 57 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Nathan Ortega made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lamesa was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 222 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Roosevelt didn't have too much trouble with Sundown on Friday as they won 35-20. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Roughnecks: they've now won four in a row.
Lamesa better keep an eye on Jaden Zuniga. He was instrumental in Roosevelt's win, rushing for 93 yards and three scores. That's the most rushing yards Zuniga has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Kemp, who rushed for 91 yards and one TD on only ten carries.
Lamesa's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-4. As for Roosevelt, their record now sits at 2-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's game: Lamesa has been excellent in the air this season, having averaged 314.4 passing yards per game. It's a different story for Roosevelt, though, as they've been averaging only 66.4 passing yards. How will they fare against such a dominant passing game?
Lamesa was taken down by Roosevelt 65-35 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point the Tornadoes were down 43-21.
