Softball Recap: Hill-Murray Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hill-Murray ultimately got the result they hoped for on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out the Academy of Holy Angels Stars 6-5. Six seems to be a good number for the Pioneers as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.

Elli Petronack was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over eight innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits. Petronack was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with one double and one RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Emily Rebel was excellent, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Malia Mauer, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and one stolen base.

Hill-Murray kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matches.

The victory got Hill-Murray back to even at 9-9-1. As for Academy of Holy Angels, they moved to 8-4 with that defeat, which also ended their three-game winning streak.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hill-Murray will take on North at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Academy of Holy Angels, they will face off against Jefferson at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Jaguars will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something the Stars surely won't give up without a fight.
