Basketball Recap: Episcopal Picks Up Fifth Straight Win at Home

Episcopal had won four straight home games and Princess Akojenu did her part to make it five on Friday. The Episcopal Maroon took down the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart Gators 63-49 thanks in part to Akojenu, who dropped a double-double with 23 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Episcopal's points.

Genesis Villegas was another key player, putting up 14 points and eight boards. What's more, she also posted a 22% three-point shooting accuracy, which is the highest she's achieved since back in December of 2024.

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Josie Watts, who posted 16 points and six rebounds. Another player making a difference was Carrie Helfrich, who earned seven points along with seven assists and five boards.

Episcopal is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.4 points over those games. Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart's defeat dropped their record down to 16-10.

Looking ahead, Episcopal will face off against Flint Hill at 2:45 p.m. on Sunday. One thing working in Flint Hill's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games. Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
