Basketball Game Preview: Stevens Point Panthers vs. De Pere Redbirds

The Stevens Point Panthers and the De Pere Redbirds will face off at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Stevens Point knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully De Pere likes a good challenge.

Stevens Point is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Lakeland just ended the team's five-game winning streak on Friday. They took a 62-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Thunderbirds.

Meanwhile, De Pere faced Laconia in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. De Pere fell 61-50 to Laconia. The Redbirds' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

De Pere's loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Stevens Point, their defeat ended a 13-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-3.

Stevens Point was able to grind out a solid victory over De Pere when the teams last played back in February of 2020, winning 65-58. The rematch might be a little tougher for Stevens Point since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
