Basketball Recap: Whitefield Academy Sets Scoring Season-High Against Villa Rica

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Whitefield Academy). They strolled past the Villa Rica Wildcats with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 79-65. Given the WolfPack's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 130th, while the Wildcats are ranked 310th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Whitefield Academy was led to victory by Hailey Houlder and Amelia Newman. Houlder went 7 for 11 from beyond the arc on her way to 33 points in addition to six rebounds and five assists, while Newman went 9 for 18 on her way to 30 points in addition to six boards and five steals. Houlder is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last 11 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Emahni Chambliss, who posted ten points in addition to six boards and six steals.

Whitefield Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in 14 consecutive games.

Whitefield Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-4 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.4 points per game. As for Villa Rica, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-9.

Whitefield Academy will take on Grace Christian Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Whitefield Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.8 points per game this season. As for Villa Rica, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Homewood at 12:15 p.m.
