Basketball Game Preview: Mountain View Mountain Lions vs. Wellington Eagles

The Mountain View Mountain Lions will venture away from home to take on the Wellington Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Last Tuesday, Mountain View was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 52-47 to Roosevelt. The Mountain Lions were up 31-12 in the second quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

Despite the defeat, Mountain View got top-tier performance from Cole Tonniges, who almost dropped a double-double with 20 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Dylan Garland, who posted 12 points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Wellington was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their 38th straight loss dating back to last season. They were beaten by Liberty Common 76-48. While losing is never fun, Wellington can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 335th, while Liberty Common is ranked 61st).

Wellington's defeat dropped their record down to 0-19. As for Mountain View, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-9.

Everything came up roses for Mountain View against Wellington in their previous matchup back in January, as the squad secured a 73-23 win. In that match, Mountain View amassed a halftime lead of 44-12, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
