Soccer Game Preview: Detroit Country Day vs. Garden City

The Detroit Country Day Yellowjackets will square off against the Garden City Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Detroit Country Day's last three games have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Detroit Country Day's offense. They fell just short of Berkley by a score of 1-0 on Tuesday. Considering the last time Detroit Country Day couldn't score was back in March, the team can't take the result too hard.

Meanwhile, Garden City waltzed into their contest on Wednesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the Chargers. Given Garden City's advantage in MaxPreps' Michigan soccer rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Crestwood are ranked 225th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Emma Miles and Maya Edwards scored all three of Garden City's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 20 goals.

Garden City pushed their record up to 11-1-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five matches. As for Detroit Country Day, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3-2.

Detroit Country Day beat Garden City 2-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do the Cougars have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
