Baseball Game Preview: Largo Packers vs. Tarpon Springs Spongers

The Largo Packers will square off against the Tarpon Springs Spongers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Largo 2.7, Tarpon Springs 4) so any runs scored will be well earned.

Largo gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They were the clear victor by an 8-2 margin over Boca Ciega. The result was nothing new for the Packers, who have now won six matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Tarpon Springs hadn't done well against Dunedin recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. Tarpon Springs came out on top against Dunedin by a score of 10-6. The high-scoring effort was just what the Spongers needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Danny Scott tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Parker Rochkind, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Andres Rodriguez was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.

Largo's victory bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Tarpon Springs, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-4.

Largo came out on top in a nail-biter against Tarpon Springs in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Does Largo have another victory up their sleeve, or will Tarpon Springs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
