Softball Recap: Dixon Makes It 14 in a Row on the Road

Dixon hadn't done well against East Nicolaus recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Rams had just enough and edged out the Spartans 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Rams have posted since May 30, 2024.

Dakota Gaball spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Rachael Cayabyab was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 3-for-4. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played. Olivia Gomez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.

Dixon's victory was their 14th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.7 runs over those games. As for East Nicolaus, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-5 record this season.

Dixon will head out on the road to challenge Pioneer at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Patriots will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Rams surely won't give up without a fight. As for East Nicolaus, they will challenge Winters at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Warriors have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 8.33 runs per game on average), something the Spartans will no doubt try to take advantage of.
