Softball Recap: Bakersfield Christian Takes a Loss

Bakersfield Christian dropped their record down to 19-9 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They fell just short of the Garces Memorial Rams by a score of 3-1. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Eagles couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Garces Memorial, their win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 19-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Bakersfield Christian since March 10, 2022.

For Garces Memorial's part, Jaiden Gutierrez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on five hits. Gutierrez has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 21 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Izzy Frye was incredible, going 1-for-2 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Reese Bowles, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one run.

While Bakersfield Christian had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
