Basketball Recap: River Islands Takes a Loss

River Islands lost against Ripon Christian back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Riptide took a 72-56 bruising from the Knights. The Riptide have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why River Islands lost, don't look at Charles Mapanao. Despite the final result, he posted 18 points. Mapanao continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Euan Jeice Costales, who had nine points.

Jake Vander Veen had another great game (as he tends to do), putting up 40 points for Ripon Christian. Those 40 points gave Vander Veen a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Chase Bunnell, who put up ten points.

River Islands now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Ripon Christian, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

River Islands wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 81-56 defeat against East Union on the 9th. As for Ripon Christian, they will take on Chavez at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Knights will be up against the Titans' rather soft defense (which has allowed 49.6 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
