Basketball Recap: Gary West Side Comes Up Short

Gary West Side extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-8. They were dealt a 47-11 defeat at the hands of the East Chicago Central Cardinals. The matchup marked the Cougars' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

As for East Chicago Central, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 4-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 22.3 points on average over those games.

East Chicago Central's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Carliyah Spikes, who shot 67% from the field on her way to 16 points in addition to seven rebounds and three blocks. Spikes is on a roll when it comes to shooting accuracy, as she's posted one of at least 60% in the last three games she's played. Lela Edmonds was another key player, dropping a double-double with 11 points and ten boards.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Gary West Side will face off against South Bend Career Academy at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for East Chicago Central, they will be playing at home against Portage at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
