Softball Recap: Schoolcraft Comes Up Short

Schoolcraft extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 7-13 in the process. They came up short against the Kalamazoo Christian Comets, falling 14-4. Eagles fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team's lost against the Comets since on Wednesday.

As for Kalamazoo Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 12-6. Considering they have won nine contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Kalamazoo Christian's part, Allison Howes made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Howes has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three runs and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April.

In other batting news, Carien Ybema was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Reese Gernaat was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.

While Schoolcraft had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
